Which Double Stroller? Tandem or Side-by-side
Double strollers come in two different designs: side-by-side or tandem. Given the number of questions on this topic on various parenting forums, parents seem to be confused about which to pick, and understandably so: there is no single answer. Both designs have their pros and cons so it all depends on your specific needs and priorities.
Let?s examine the advantages and limitations of both side-by-side and tandem style strollers:
The seats in tandem strollers are by definition one in front of the other, which allows for a much narrower frame. The obvious advantage of the tandem design is that it is easy to get through doors, hallways, isles, sidewalks and other narrow passages.
From a child socialization point of view, your children will tend to interact less with each other in a tandem stroller because they typically won?t see each other and won?t be within reach of each other. This may be a good or a bad thing depending on what you?re looking for! Interacting less might mean longer naps and less fighting but it also means that they won?t be able to play or communicate with one another as much. The amount of interaction you?ll want may also depend on their respective ages: Twins might be better off side-by-side whereas siblings of different ages may be happier in a tandem stroller allowing the infant to nap while the older one plays.
Note that a few tandem stroller models now allow turning the seats so that children face each other or both face back to see mommy (for infants). This is a great feature that makes such tandem strollers a very attractive choice.
A side-by-side design is harder to get through narrow doors but is typically easier to maneuver. Not only side-by-side strollers tend to be lighter but the width between the handles makes it easy to turn on a dime. In contrast attempting to make a u-turn with a tandem stroller in a crowded supermarket aisle can be a real challenge given the length of the stroller and its weight distribution. And it?s even worse when the older heavier kid is in the front, which of course they will want to be!
For errands where you have to get in and out of a car, note that side-by-side strollers tend to be smaller once folded and since they?re also typically lighter, it?s easier to fit them into the trunk of a car.
So before spending $500 on the coolest looking double stroller out there, make sure to factor in how maneuverable and compact you need it to be as well as whether you want your kids to interact or leave each other alone!

A Close Examination of Double Strollers
It is a fact that not all things are created equal; and this holds true to double strollers as well. Some are made sturdy, others are handy, and still others have more features than the rest.
If you are a first-time mom of twins, it is not a mortal sin to be meticulous, especially when selecting among the many double strollers available for your twins. However, it is a sound advice to keep your eyes into the details of the double stroller that you will buy.
Safety Features
To get your twin ready for your outdoor strolling, it is best to choose a double stroller with deep seats, terrain tires, locking brakes, larger wheels, and with a wrist strap as safety measures.
Adjustable Seats
It may occur that your twins will sleep more often when inside the double stroller. As a mom, you want them to feel comfortable, and so you have to check that the seats properly recline to a certain slight angle. At this early stage, you do not wish to ruin their posture because you chose a double stroller wherein the seats cannot be adjusted. Your twins should be properly seated so as to avoid their heads never droop while asleep.
Maneuverability
There is a better way of testing whether you feel comfortable operating the double strollers: push it for a few rounds. You cannot argue with your first-hand experience of handling the strollers yourself. There are basic features that you will have to see, like the position of the wheels and the handles. The height of the stroller’s handle should be enough for your height so that you will feel comfortable while pushing the strollers, making it easier for you to turn in corners.
Transportable Seats
If it is possible, choose a double stroller with seats that are easily transported from the stroller to your car’s seats and back. This gives you the convenience of transferring your twins from the strollers to your car. This type of advancement in baby’s equipment is being incorporated in double strollers.
Easy Assembly and Storage
Since these are double strollers, you may have a foresight that you will be having difficulty in the assembly of the whole thing. You may be right; however, you have to learn how to assemble the double stroller on your own after carefully studying the manual and observing your spouse. You really need to do it in case there is no one around to do it for you and you need to go out of the house with your twins. As much as possible, choose the double stroller that’s easy to assemble so that it won’t take much of your time to do it. Also, you should keep the stroller as per instruction so as to prevent it from damage. Place it in the area where you can easily spot and return it there so you will not take time to look for it when you need it already.

Understanding the Types of Double Strollers For Traveling
Double strollers have been very helpful for mothers especially those blessed with twins or babies with closer age gaps. In an attempt to further answer the specific needs of every parent, the double strollers have now different variations in order to give more convenience, more safety, and smooth mobility. Here is a quick guide.
Tandem Double Strollers
This double stroller offers a front and back or the configuration of an inline seating. This type is preferred because of easy maneuver even on narrow spaces. The model has storage features that give convenience to parents, like the holders of cup and the baskets as well. The most interesting feature about this model is having a capacity to use the infant-carrier car seat style, which gives the parents convenience in transferring the babies from the stroller to the car and vice-versa. This can however be heavier and more awkward compared to other models. This type of double stroller is ideal for twins but more applicable to babies with different ages.
Side-by-side Double Strollers
It is the conventional style of a double stroller. It has two seats that are facing on the same direction, which allows equal positioning of both babies. This style of a stroller is more often compact and allows easy storage. However, it may be a little hard to maneuver especially on hallways and doorways that are narrow. This is more ideal for twins.
Double Strollers for Jogging
Still another variation is the double jogging stroller. By its name, this type is ideal for mommies who want to go jogging without having to leave their twins at home. The wheels of this type are basically larger in size in order to give a smooth ride even while you jog. The bigger wheels allow you to push easier. This is yet another innovation to perfectly address the need of active moms.
After you have educated yourself with the different types of double strollers, you might think that it ends there and you can already make a sound decision. The answer is no because there are still other factors that you need to consider. Knowing the type that specifically meets your needs is just the first step.
Other Factors
To further evaluate your preference of the double stroller, here are the important factors that you should consider.
Double Your Fun With a Pure and Honest Kids Double Stroller!
When you have multiples or young children very close in age, purchasing a double stroller is one of the most important purchases you will make. The stroller helps you travel to and fro everywhere you go for the first few years of your child’s life, so you want to make sure you get the stroller that meets all your needs. This choice becomes a bit more complicated when you’re using the stroller for more than one child.
Pure and Honest Kids has an excellent selection of double strollers. Check them out here! Here are some tips on how to find the perfect double stroller for your family.
The best stroller is the one that fits your lifestyle, is a style you like, and also fits your budget. Safety and comfort are essential, and the accessories and options that come with double strollers are not to be ignored.
Think about your lifestyle. Are you going to be jogging with your babies? Or mostly running errands? Will you be using the stroller mostly in a city setting, walking on sidewalks in congested areas, or do you live close to the coast or mountains and plan on walking on uneven terrain often? The best double stroller will allow you to do all the activities you like to do, ensuring you can take your babies wherever you need to go. When you figure out your lifestyle and the activities you will mostly use your stroller for, you can then narrow the options considerably.
Safety is always the number one concern of parents when shopping for something as important as a stroller. With a double stroller, you want to ensure both children are full protected, and have individual safety features, such as padding and reliable restraint systems, such as a five-point harness. Other safety features to consider are a secondary locking mechanism on the frame of the stroller to ensure that the stroller cannot fold up while in use, rear-wheel breaks, tip-resistant frame, and some type of canopy to protect the baby from sun and inclement weather.
You also have to think about the size of the stroller. Will it fit into your car? How much does it weigh and can you comfortably transport it in and out of your car? These are all important things to consider when buying a double stroller. Double strollers are considerably larger than a single stroller and you do not want to purchase one that is too cumbersome or heavy for you to enjoy using.
Speaking of cumbersome, does the stroller fold and unfold easily? You will be juggling two young children at once, while folding and unfolding your stroller. It is essential to find a stroller that has an easy-to-use mechanism to open and close your stroller frame.
Although children are small, they require a lot of “stuff” to travel around town. Make sure you look for a stroller with some storage areas. A generously-sized storage basket on the bottom of a double stroller is a wonderful feature to consider, and will enable you to carry all the items both your children need.
What accessories on your stroller will make your life easier? Strollers have so many options today, including snack trays, cup holders, toy bars, IPod hookups, and so much more. Do some research and figure out what accessories you want on your double stroller.
Double Strollers: When One is Not Enough
If you have twins or other children that are close in age or size, double strollers will make life easier for both the parents and the children. Seen as a modern convenience, double strollers make single duty of double children. Almost every major stroller manufacturer makes double strollers and provides different styles and models to make life easier for you. The manufacturers are equipping the double strollers with enough accessories from the standard models that you can even buy a double stroller without worrying about having to buy additional accessories on down the road.
There are many different styles of double strollers. Tandem double strollers are becoming popular because of their versatility and style. With a tandem double stroller you will find it is approximately the same weight as a standard stroller and gives a stadium type of seating so the child in the back seat can watch what is going on in front of them just as well as the child in the front seat. Many tandems come with the option of having a conversion set up so that a car seat can be used as the back seat of the stroller.
Another type of double stroller is the double umbrella stroller. The seating in this style of double stroller is side by side. This model can be considered the original double stroller. These types of strollers are usually wider than the normal strollers and most of these do not have the capacity to put a car seat in them. These strollers are larger than normal but they are perfect for taking your children around town and enjoying your day out. Your children will be able to ride in safety and comfort with the wide variety of umbrella stroller accessories that at some to provide protection from the sun and other elements.
When you start to shop for your double stroller you must determine which of the double strollers will work best for your lifestyle. A tandem double stroller is perfect for your everyday activities such as a walk or shopping. And the side-by-side double strollers are great for a stroll through the mall or in the park. If you are an active family you can even find double jogging strollers. The jogging double strollers allow you to go for a quick jog around the park or neighborhood and take your children with you. Not only does this activity provide you some wonderful cardiovascular exercise, but it also provides a great way to have your children enjoy outdoor activities with you.
You can get as many accessories for double strollers as your imagination allows. You must remember that double strollers are generally larger and usually heavier than most other strollers, and that is a combination you must look at when fitting your lifestyle and the needs of your children into the stroller selection process. No one stroller fits all families and the stroller that you pick has to fit the convenience, lifestyle, and a budget that your family can afford.

Are There Any Double Strollers With 2 Car Seat Attachments?
We’ve got twins on the way and it was suggested we get a double stroller with car seat attachments. We found some cool ones from Graco and BOB, but it looks like they only support ONE car seat attachment. That seems odd… anyone know of a model or have advice? Thanks!
